It takes courage to enter the coffee business as a widow. This coffee honors one woman’s courage and leadership. The Kirundi word “ntwari” encompasses both of these qualities.
Several years after her husband passed, she has found her voice in this male-dominated industry. She first met Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian as she learned with other women farmers how to cultivate specialty coffee the JNP Coffee way. Now she’s ready to lead young women as she brings them along in her growing coffee business.
Ntwari coffee is grown in Muyinga (now part of Buhumuza Province) and is processed by a women-owned wet mill.
